Megan-Building-Credit-So-She-Can-Have-A-Life-After-College

2 Posts in 1 Day!!!! Oh boy!

Well, here we are.  Velvet again has inspired me.  (I love that girl.) :)  My mom and I have tossed around the idea with me getting a credit card to help pay for school (specifically, textbooks.)

Now, let me give you a brief recap of what happened my first semester last year of college.
Megan: received an extra $1,000 from her Dad's SS check somehow?  Megan: Blew it ALL.

Yeah, so who's Captain of the Fail Boat now?  That, ladies and gentlemen, would be me, yours truly.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME???

WHO BLOWS $1,000 ON CRAP?  Apparently, I do.

So, now, show of hands.  Who thinks I should get a credit card?! ......Thats what I thought to.

Update: This year, I've finally got my sh!t together and have finally reached some sort of fiscal maturity.  No more blowing $30 on seasons of Charmed (which I'm still trying to get all of by the way!)  No more late night Dominos because I'm hungry.  NOTHING.  (Well, okay, I've spent money on a few deliveries this year, but I actually was starving, and I actually did have EXTRA cash for the hours I put in.)

I e-mailed my mom about 15 mins ago re-proposing the idea of Megan+credit card=Megan Can Maybe Get Her Own House/Car After college.  NOTE: My mother had suggested that I get a credit card specifically FOR textbooks and college-related items, but my grandparents shut us down because they didn't think I was quite ready yet.  I tended to agree with them after looking at what I did to myself.  $1,000 could have paid for my textbooks for the rest of my 2.5 yrs here at Camp Champ.  Again, WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME??????

Anywho, where was I?  Ah, yes.  Back to Velvet.  Ok, so I had explained all of this situation to Velvet this year, and after looking at me like I am a dumbass (which I don't blame her for,) for blowing $1,000 on crap, she suggested also that I get myself a credit card to start building up some credit.  She told me that she has a Discover Student card, which is based around the idea of building up good, responsible credit for college-age students.  Kind of an innovative idea, right?

Of course, I don't remember all the particulars about the good stuff that comes with getting the Discover Student Credit Card, but I'm sure I'll have more time for speculation and discussion and debate with Velvet as we find time to chat.

I am seriously considering getting myself one of these cards.  (The fact that you can also "personalize" your card by picking out your own design is kind of AWESOME too.)  If you have thoughts and/or comments and/or questions, please leave them below.

Lots of Love!
-Megan
